The sculptures by Ernest Joachim are abstracted to a greater or lesser degree. Sometimes the titles reveal where his ideas originated and where they find their origin or destination. Inside, outside, the inner and outer world, birth, security, circles and spherical shapes, the spiritual world, sun and moon lift a corner of the veil. The creation process of his bronze sculptures is craft-based: first they are made from clay or wax, then cast in bronze, followed by a lengthy process of sanding, polishing and patinating.
The work of Rolf Mulder wants to tell no other story than a fusion of line, plane, colour and space. A sculpture represents nothing other than itself, just as a tree represents nothing other than a tree. My sculptures, reliefs and drawings come into being without prior sketches and/or stories. They are ordering quests for balance. Titles and works form a whole and can form an inviting bridge between the abstract image and the viewer without doing violence to the abstraction. They arise intuitively. From leftover pieces that remain from a sculpture or relief, most new sculptures and reliefs emerge. In this way, some DNA of one sculpture is always passed on to the next.
